Special Needs Team - 1 to 1 of 1

icon Cobras

Vipers offers a special needs team for children and adults (males/females) with intellectual disabilities. Routines are choreographed just like all the other competitive teams with music, dancing, cheering, tumbling, stunting, and pyramids. All levels are welcome, no experience necessary. Practice is held once a week from September until June for one hour. There are no monthly fees to participate in this program. Fundraising participation is encouraged to help offset expenses. There is a one-time booster club membership fee for members. Team members are responsible for coordinating and paying for travel expenses to events.

The team competes at regional All-Star Cheerleading competitions with the other Viper teams (4-6 local competitions). Cobras also perform at local Harford County events. To finish the season, Cobras represent Harford County at the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games in June at Towson University. The team won Gold 4 years in a row competing in the Elite Unified division!

Cobras is not just a cheerleading's a place where an athlete can grow as an individual and be motivated, challenged, reach goals and learn new skills. More importantly, being a part of a team builds self-confidence and self-esteem; it teaches them about teamwork and builds on their social skills. The mission of Cobras is to have an extracurricular activity, social meeting place for children/adults with special needs to feel at home, where they are accepted and valued, for each individual to perform to the best of his/her ability in cheerleading and to have FUN!
