Why Vipers?

Viper All-Star Cheer & Dance offers a comprehensive program focused on the well-being and personal growth of the cheerleader/dancer as well as developing their athletic abilities &skill.

Teaching sportsmanship, teamwork, ethics, respect and other such character building blocks on their path to adulthood is as important to us as developing strong athletes. The two go hand-in-hand.

We set high standards, as our goal is to turn out the best athletes on the floor and off the floor. Our numerous trophies and sportsmanships awards demonstrate both of these standards.

What is All Star Cheerleading and Dance?

All Star cheerleaders and dancers do not cheer or dance for a particular sports team or school. They represent a private cheer gym or dance studio. They compete on a National and Regional level and may do exhibition appearances for entertainment.

Viper All Star cheerleading and dance offers the more intense athlete an outlet to take their skills and technique to the next level. The level of training is more focused and the level of accomplishment is greater. Viper All Star cheerleading and dance also offers more specialized physical training in tumbling and stunting.

What is the difference between the teams in the gym?

The difference lies in cost and time invested. For the most part, the more advanced the team and the older the team members, the larger the time commitment. The most cheerleading teams practice twice a week and have a tumbling class every week. All teams will compete locally and out of state with the highest level teams will also be required to travel out of state for national competitions.

How long is the season?

Our season begins with tumbling through out the summer. (No former tumbling experience is required.) Our competition season runs through mid-April.

Where is the gym located?

The gym is located East of the town of Bel Air, MD, in Harford County, directly off of I-95.

The address is 1371 Brass Mill Road, Suite M.

Can I fundraise?

We have an excellent fundraising program in place. Throughout the season, a multitude of different fundraisers from pizza drives to working Ravens, and Oriole games are available at your discretion.

Any and all money you raise goes into your own personal account to be used toward any Viper expense including monthly fees, travel, uniform, camp, etc.

We try to plan one or two fundraisers per season that benefit the entire group. These are usually a basket bingo or hosting a regional competition. The money from these events goes into the Viper general fund to be used toward music, Christmas party, trophies & awards and anything that would benefit the Vipers as a whole.

We have an excellent fundraising committee who organizes each fundraiser and issues periodic statements on individual accounts. They are always open to new ideas and personnel.

How are try-outs run?

We have none...instead we ask you to stop by the gym and register. We teach all levels of tumbling through out the summer, from standing back handsprings to double full twists. At the end of the summer we will evaluate the tumbling skills we have within the gym and create age appropriate teams from there.

For our younger cheer teams (Pee Wees and Ankle Biters) we have no try outs. We merely have you sign up and come to practice. No need for unneeded stress at that age. Our Special Needs team also requires no tryouts, you merely join and practice once a week.

For dance teams, we will have two evenings of dance workshops where the coaches will observe your talent and potential. Following the workshops, the coaches will meet to place the dancers on a team based upon age and ability.

The intent is to have several dance teams. The difference between them is that Jazz/Funk will consist of studio dancers who are trained in technique while the Pom team will consist of cheer dancers with strong arm and precision movement.

The results of all try-outs will be posted on our website and in the gym at a time to be announced.

Is Choreography Mandatory?

Yes, summer choreography is mandatory.

Do I have to know how to tumble to be on a Viper Team?

Not at all!

We have both the equipment and staff to teach you all the tumbling you need to learn. In these situations we look for people who are dedicated and want to learn how to tumble in order to improve.

Can I compete on more than one team?

Yes, you may be on two cheer teams (in some instances) or a cheer team and a dance team or you may be on more than one dance team. Also, you can be on one of our teams and on your school team as well; although, if you are on one of our teams, it must take precedence over your school team.

What is the weekly time commitment?

Cheer teams will practice twice a week, and you can either take your tumbling class on one of your practice days or come in another day.

Dance teams will practice once a week.

Is there a discount for more than one child from a family?

Yes, but only for cheerleaders.

Is there a discount for being on more than one team?

No, unfortunately we cannot offer that discount with our current budget.

Is tumbling included in our practices?

As a member of a Viper cheer program, you will have two cheer practices a week and a tumbling class. You can choose the day and time for your tumbling class, your choices will be based upon your practice schedule and skill level. This tumbling class is included in your monthly fee. Pee Wees will have one practice per week and one tumbling class per week, based upon schedule and level, also included in your fee.

Additional tumbling is offered for Viper members at a discounted rate.

Can I get extra tumbling lessons during the season?

Absolutely! Our gym offers an array of tumbling classes at all levels. These tumbling classes which are open to the public operate on a monthly basis.

As a member of a Viper team, you will receive a discount on any tumbling class you join. You may also take private lessons from the tumbling instructors in our gym.

What opportunities lie beyond Vipers?

Graduates of our program have many options.

The coaches in our gym frequently bring in college recruiters to talk to seniors about their options and scholarship availability. Many of the big colleges along the East Coast know of our cheerleading program, and chances are one of our graduates has gone on to cheer for that school.

If you are interested in cheering or dancing in college, our coaches will assist you in applying, trying out, and looking into cheerleading/dance team scholarship money.

Also, there are many companies that hire cheerleading/dance instructors and choreographers. We can get you started with working for these organizations at their summer camps/competitions.

Finally, if you are interested in Ravens, or other "professional" cheerleading/dance teams, information is readily available at our gym.

What is the cost?

Our costs are based on enrollment. Viper All-Stars is a non-profit organization, therefore, we charge only what is needed to cover our expenses.

The oldest, most advanced teams have the higher monthly fees and the cost of traveling out of state. The younger/moderate teams have lower monthly fees because they do not spend as many hours in the gym.

Dance teams and the Pee Wee cheer team are the most economical due to the fact that they are in the gym the least amount of hours. Dance teams, however, will possibly travel out of state for a national tournament.
